- 1 cup milk (for those of you who can't have milk, you may use Almond Milk which is just as yummy! the recipe for that is below.)
- 2 frozen bananas
- 1 Tablespoon date paste (see note)
- 2 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa, cacao powder or carob powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Allow the bananas to thaw for 5 minutes, and break them into a few pieces. Place all the ingredients in a blender and process until smooth and creamy. Serve immediately.
Note: To make date paste, place 1/3 cup water and 1 cup soaked pitted dates (to soak, just put them in water for about 30 minutes) in a food processor and process until smooth. Yield:1 cup. Stored in a sealed container in the fridge, date paste will keep for 2 weeks.
I was very much delighted to find that this milkshake is so very yummy! I have tried neither of the variations, but they sound delicious too!
Variations:
Strawberry Milkshake: Omit Vanilla extract and cocoa powder and add 1 cup of fresh or frozen strawberries (about 6). If using frozen, do not thaw or drain.
Banana Milkshake: Omit cocoa powder.
Almond Milk
- 2 1/2 cups water
- 1 1/2 cups soaked almonds
- 3 pitted dates, soaked
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Place 1 1/2 cups of the water and the almons, dates, and optinal vanilla in a blender. Blend on high speed until very smooth. Add remaining 1 cup of water and blend until smooth.
Place a fine-mesh strainer over a medium bowl and pour the almond mixture through it. Using a rubber spatula, stir and press the pulp that is caught in a strainer to extract as much milk as possible. Alternatively, use a sprout bag to strain the milk.
Discard the pulp left in the strainer. Transfer the milk to a sealed container and store in the fridge. Almond Milk will keep for 5 days. Shake well before using.
I actually first tried the milkshake with Almond Milk, and it really was very tasty!
Tell me what you think if any of you try it!
